Details
This course will introduce the concepts of the mechanical properties of wood, and how they can impact durability, resiliency, and sustainability of wood buildings. A summary of code sections and relevant standards applicable to durable and resilient structures will be discussed. Standards governing the sustainability of buildings and the standards development process will be reviewed. The concept of embodied energy and embodied carbon will be introduced, followed by a comparison between wood and other common structural building materials.
